Black
Families Online
|
[From
"Frontlines" section of September 2003 issue] Stacey Montgomery wrote her new book, "Black Families Online" (iUniverse Inc., $16.95), on the premise that, while parenting in general is a challenge, parenting of African-American children has its own special set of challenges. Neatly
divided into chapters that address 20 of these specific challenges, Montgomery's
book points her readers to Web sites big and small where they can find
information on natural hairstyle ideas for kids, racially sensitive toys,
Afrocentric bedding...the list goes on. More than 375 sites are profiled
in descriptions that manage to be helpful while consistently staying concise.
The text is also peppered with the stories of women and men striving to
create more Web resources for black parents. Reprinted
with permission.
